Wikipedia says the Little Black Dress owes its popularity and status to Coco Channel. It’s supposed to be “long-lasting, versatile, affordable, and widely accessible”, which seems logical until you think about how beautiful many women look in a short, clingy, black, slip. They know it, we know it. It’s a shortcut to looking your best that works for anyone who looks good almost naked in public.
Pearl is a prime example. Black dresses were a big deal in 1994. It was the year that Elizabeth Hurley globally reset stereotypes about British women when she put of Versace’s safety pin creation, and caused “Red Hot Riding Hood” reactions in anyone who saw her. Pearl would undoubtedly relate. What a corker (and I wasn’t exaggerating, members will observe that she looks fantastic in the nuddy).
